Learning through multi-sensory engagement is a powerful method, proven to accelerate the educational process. However, crafting learning experiences that are both fun and engaging can be a challenge. I recently posted this reel showing some activities that address this problem. They blend phonics and mathematics with multi-sensory play, an approach I find to be exceptionally effective in facilitating learning.
Build and Match Words:
- Print and cut out some pictures from an Activity pack.
- Write each picture on a tile using a chalk marker.
- Jumble up the letters.
- Ask your child to sort the letters to match each picture.
Word Builder:
- Write some three-letter SATPIN words on the tiles.
- Ask your child to organise the tiles to spell a word of your choosing.
Build words with Digraphs:
- Spell out some words that start with the same digraph. For example, if you want to practise the /ch/ digraph, you could use the words: chin, cheek, chip, chop.
- Then ask your child to move the /ch/ tile to each word and then sound out the word.
Conclusion
These activities blend phonics and mathematics with multi-sensory play, an approach I find to be exceptionally effective in facilitating learning. They are designed to help with:
- Letter Recognition: Helps children identify letters of the alphabet and associate them with sounds, laying the foundation for reading skills.
- Hand-Eye Coordination: Enhances fine motor skills and coordination through interactive tasks like matching letters to pictures.
- Engaging Learning Experience: Ensures the learning process remains fun and interactive, a crucial element in maintaining a child's interest and motivation.
